Black magic in the garden

Updated: Nov 13

The leaves crunching underfoot is one of the first sure signs that autumn is on the horizon. The garden is still full of flowers. It’s seed gathering time. The beautiful big sunflowers are still in bloom and some are ready for harvest. Around our favourites this year have been the BLACK MAGIC variety which we have grown alongside varieties like TITAN, LITTLE DORRIT and HARLEQUIN.

Our bees have loved them. Spending ages wondering around on their lush black flower heads. They are the perfect dinner table for the efficient (lazy) foraging bees 🐝who like to get as much food as possible in one place.

Easy to germinate and grow even here in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Why not plant some with us? Available in our eBay shop.

We have loved black flower varieties this year. Dahlias, roses… all a dark hue which upon closer inspection reveals purples and deep burgundies.

The kernels themselves are also much darker than your average sunflower. Sometimes having a purple fleck.

Our home in Renfrewshire is called Ben Seillean. Ben Seillean means hill of the bees in Scots Gaelic. We love bees and are investing in making the perfect garden to nurture our bees through the year. Heather, lavender, wild flower meadows and beautiful bulbs keep the garden in bloom from early spring to late autumn.

We love bees 🐝 everything we plant is selected to attract them snd create a vibrant garden full of life and biodiversity.

Check out our range of organic beeswax candles snd soaps. All handmade in Scotland with love ❤️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
