Snowdrops, plan for the first signs of spring

Updated: Jan 29, 2023

Exceptionally hardy … and they need to be! We know it seems early but … it’s not! This is the perfect time to get bulbs in the ground to lift your spirits when it feels like we are still in the depths of winter. These little gems are the first to poke the cheerful little faces up.

Galanthus (from Ancient Greek γάλα, (gála, "milk") + ἄνθος (ánthos, "flower")), or snowdrop, is a small genus of approximately 20 species of bulbous perennial herbaceous plants in the family Amaryllidaceae. The plants have two linear leaves and a single small white drooping bell-shaped flower with six petal-like (petaloid) tepals in two circles (whorls). The smaller inner petals have green markings.

Plant NOW for early flowers!

Planting should start from August and continue to through the Autumn. If, like us, you need that lift and the promise of spring then these are the bulbs for you.

Our home in Renfrewshire is called Ben Seillean. Ben Seillean means hill of the bees in Scots Gaelic. We love bees and are investing in making the perfect garden to nurture our bees through the year. Heather, lavender, wild flower meadows and beautiful bulbs keep the garden in bloom from early spring to late autumn.

We love bees 🐝 everything we plant is selected to attract them snd create a vibrant garden full of life and biodiversity.
