Paisley Honey is a small independent business based in Paisley, Scotland, creating handmade rosaries, prayer beads and devotional gifts for people around the world.
The business grew from a meeting of faith, making and the natural world. At the workbench, beads, wood, stone and metal are shaped into objects for prayer. Beyond the workshop, the rhythm of the year is marked by the bees: spring inspections, summer growth, the honey harvest and the slower months of winter.
These two parts of Paisley Honey belong together. Both require patience, attention and respect for materials and processes that cannot be hurried.
The maker behind Paisley Honey
My name is Fiach, and I am the maker behind Paisley Honey. I am Irish and live in the west of Scotland, and the work is shaped by both places. Irish saints, Scottish landscapes, Celtic crosses, island monasteries, pilgrimage routes and the Christian story of the Atlantic coast all find their way into the pieces I make.
I grew up around art and making. My father was an artist whose work drew deeply on the Book of Kells and early Celtic design, and I spent much of my childhood in and around his workshop. That early familiarity with pattern, symbolism, materials and handwork has stayed with me.
Paisley Honey is not an inherited family business, but it is connected to that older experience of seeing ideas become physical things through patience and craft.
Why rosaries and prayer beads?
Rosaries and prayer beads are simple objects, but they can carry a great deal.
They may mark a Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, reception into the Church, a pilgrimage, an anniversary or a period of recovery. They may be given in grief, thanksgiving or encouragement. Some are bought by people returning to prayer after many years. Others are carried daily until the beads and metal gradually show the signs of use.
I do not think of them as luxury objects. They are companions for prayer.
That is why the details matter: the feel of the beads in the hand, the weight of the cross, the strength of the construction and the story behind each design. Handmade in Paisley, Scotland
Each Paisley Honey rosary and set of prayer beads is assembled by hand in our Paisley workshop.
The range includes Catholic rosaries, Anglican prayer beads, rosary bracelets, pocket rosaries, Celtic cross designs and personalised devotional gifts. Natural stone, hardwood, glass, cord and carefully selected metalwork are used across the collection.
Some pieces are traditional. Others are shaped by the saints, landscapes and Christian heritage of Scotland and Ireland, including Iona, Saint Columba, Saint Brigid, Saint Patrick and the carved crosses of the early Church. The aim is not to reproduce the past, but to create devotional objects that feel rooted in it. Our Iona-inspired devotional work grew from this approach, bringing together Saint Columba, the early Christian story of Scotland and designs inspired by the ancient stone crosses of Iona.
Our own metalwork
One of the things that makes Paisley Honey distinctive is the development of our own metalwork. Rather than relying entirely on standard religious components, I design original crosses, medals and small devotional details for selected collections. These pieces often begin with sketches inspired by historic carvings, island crosses, saints or the natural world. The process allows us to create designs that are recognisably Paisley Honey and that cannot simply be found in every other religious gift shop. Our small honeybee motif is one example. It connects the devotional work with the beekeeping that gave the business its name.
Why bees?
Bees have been part of Christian and monastic life for centuries. Beeswax was used for church candles, honey was valued as food and medicine, and the ordered life of the hive became a symbol of community, work and creation. Saint Gobnait, the Irish saint associated with bees and healing, has particular meaning for us. Our own bees are kept in the west of Scotland. The apiary is not open to the public, and the honey is harvested only once each year, usually in late summer. It is a small, seasonal part of the business and regularly sells out. Beekeeping keeps Paisley Honey connected to weather, place and the limits of the natural world. Not everything can be produced on demand, and not every season behaves as expected.
That is part of its value.
A small business with a wide reach
Paisley Honey began small and remains a genuinely independent, maker-led business. Over time, our devotional pieces have travelled to customers across the UK, Ireland, Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and further afield. More than 32,000 orders have been fulfilled across our sales channels, supported by thousands of customer reviews.
That growth has not changed the essential nature of the work. The pieces are still made and packed here in Paisley, and customer messages are answered by the same small business that made the order.

It may be sent to someone who needs steadiness when words are difficult. This has shaped how I think about the business.
Paisley Honey is not only about selling religious objects. It is about making things that people may carry through meaningful parts of their lives: prayer, remembrance, grief, pilgrimage, gratitude, conversion and beginning again. Our journal about prayer, saints, pilgrimage and the natural world explores many of these themes, alongside the stories, landscapes and traditions that inspire our work.
Made with care
Small businesses are built on trust. We try to communicate clearly about materials, sizing, delivery, customs, personalisation and safety. Orders are packed carefully, tracked where appropriate and followed up when something goes wrong.
