The Simplest Cross

At the heart of the Saint Francis Collection is the Tau Cross: the plain, Christ-centred sign that Saint Francis used throughout his life. Its simplicity reflects something essential in Franciscan spirituality—a desire to return to what matters most: prayer, peace, humility and care for creation. First created during 2026, the eighth centenary year of the Transitus of Saint Francis, this collection is our own handmade response to the continuing life of his witness, 800 years after his death in 1226.

Rosaries, Prayer Beads and Franciscan Devotion

The collection brings together several distinct forms of Christian prayer. Our traditional five-decade Catholic rosaries remain centred upon the Mysteries of Christ and the familiar rhythm of the Our Father and Hail Mary. The seven-decade Franciscan Crown recalls the seven joys of the Blessed Virgin Mary, while our Anglican prayer beads offer another contemplative pattern of prayer. Tau Cross necklaces and bracelets allow the same Franciscan symbolism to be carried and worn in a simpler form.

Original Saint Francis Metalwork

Our original metalwork draws upon the life and imagery of Saint Francis: his encounter with the wolf, doves gathered around the Tau, woodland, birds, fish, lilies and bees. Some pieces also carry the words:

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.”

These details are not simply decorative. Together, they speak of reconciliation, gentleness, prayer, work and the kinship Francis recognised throughout the created world.

Handmade in Scotland

Each piece is designed and handmade by Paisley Honey in Paisley, Scotland. Natural maple, jade, rope, leather, bronze, antiqued brass and stainless steel give the collection its rustic, grounded character.

These are devotional objects made to be held, carried, worn and used in prayer. Natural grain, variation in stone and the depth of worked metal are part of their character. They are made to grow familiar through handling—not to remain untouched or immaculate.
