Our Impact

Writer: Fiach OBroin-MolloyFiach OBroin-Molloy

When we first started Paisley Honey we wanted a different way of life; for ourselves, for our community and for our customers. Slower, more sustainable, in-tune with the seasons and our local environment. Thats why thinking about our impact is so important to us. We've tried to keep things simple, to learn and to adapt. We're working on our impact in three areas:

  1. Biodiversity

  2. Delivery

  3. Materials

Biodiversity

Our home in Renfrewshire is called Ben Seillean. Ben Seillean means hill of the bees in Scots Gaelic. We love bees and are investing in making the perfect garden to nurture our bees through the year. Heather, lavender, wild flower meadows and beautiful bulbs keep the garden in bloom from early spring to late autumn. We love bees 🐝 everything we plant is selected to attract them and create a vibrant garden full of life and biodiversity. Biodiversity and sustainability are at the heart of everything we do. That's why we only ever use approved organic treatments on our hives, ensuring that our colonies of indigenous black bees get the best chance to thrive. We think you can taste the difference.

Delivery

We work with Royal Mail as our main delivery partner for domestic and international shipping. Royal Mail have the lowest average carbon footprint for deliveries at just 102g per letter/parcel. Our transport to Royal Mail depots is all fully electric, having phased out petrol vehicles in 2022. Our electric supply is also 100% from renewable sources through Octopus Energy. Through our partnership with Etsy, the carbon from all of our deliveries and packaging of orders made on our store is offset.

Materials

All of our paper, cardboard, tape and wood comes from responsible sources. FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability. FSC-certified forests are managed to strict environmental, social and economic standards. Plastic sucks and so we are working hard to cut it out of our supply chain. Our packaging is mostly made out of cardboard and paper. The plastics bubble envelopes we use is partially recycled and fully separable so that it can be recycled again by customers.

We would love to hear what you think. You can get in touch with us right here.
