The design and story
This seven-decade Franciscan Crown rosary began with a small bee.
 
As a Catholic maker and beekeeper in Paisley, I wanted to bring together the prayer of the Seven Joys of Mary with Saint Francis’s delight in the created world. Seven decades of green jade meet warm antiqued brass and my own original Saint Francis medal and Tau cross designs.
 
The birds recall the life of creation; the bee carries something of the quiet, shared labour of the hive; and the Tau—a sign used by Saint Francis—turns the eye towards Christ and his Cross. The antiqued finish gives the metalwork shadow and depth, while the individual colouring and markings of the jade make each rosary subtly different.
 
A Franciscan Crown is a seven-decade Catholic rosary traditionally prayed while meditating on the Seven Joys of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This substantial, tactile version is made by hand in small batches as a practical aid to prayer: stone and worked metal made to be held and used.
 
I created this design in Paisley in 2026, the year marking eight hundred years since the Transitus of Saint Francis. It forms part of the independent Paisley Honey Saint Francis Collection.

OPTIONAL MATCHING BRACELET
The matching jade-and-antiqued-brass bracelet carries the materials and character of the rosary into a smaller piece that can be worn throughout the day.
 
The standard bracelet is made for a 16 cm wrist. I am also very happy to make it to your measurement at no additional charge—simply provide the snug wrist measurement when ordering.
 
OPTIONAL PERSONAL ENGRAVING
Choose one of the engraved variations to receive the rosary with a personalised engraved pouch. A name, date or short dedication can make this a particularly meaningful gift for a Secular Franciscan profession, confirmation, ordination, pilgrimage, memorial or personal anniversary.
 
Engraving is added to the pouch rather than to the metal rosary. Please enter no more than 30 characters, including spaces.
 
Please note that the bracelet and engraving are paid additions and are included only when the corresponding option is selected.
 
CARE
Avoid prolonged contact with water, perfume and household chemicals. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth. The antiqued finish is intentionally rich and time-worn in character.
