This substantial double-sided necklace carries the story of one of Iona’s most remarkable early Christian monuments.
Saint Martin’s Cross has stood beside Iona Abbey for more than a thousand years and is the only one of Iona’s early high crosses still standing in its original position. Its two carved faces tell the Christian story in different ways.
The west face is filled with scenes from Scripture, including the Virgin and Child, Daniel among the lions, Abraham and Isaac, and David with musicians. The east face turns instead to intricate symbolic carving: raised bosses, interlace and entwined serpents—forms associated in early Christian art with renewal, resurrection and life continuing.
Our pendant honours that beautiful double-sided design. Each face carries its own deeply textured pattern, so this is not simply a flat cross motif with a plain reverse. It is designed to be turned over, held and appreciated from both sides.
The encircling ring and ancient carved forms give the pendant a strong presence, while its long, narrow proportions remain faithful to the distinctive character of Saint Martin’s Cross.

To preserve the sterling silver-plated finish:
• Keep the necklace dry and avoid prolonged contact with water
• Remove before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping
• Avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, lotions and household chemicals
• Wipe gently after wear with a clean, soft and dry cloth
• Do not use abrasive silver polish, chemical dips or polishing compounds
• Store separately in a dry place to help prevent scratching and tarnishing
Silver plating may naturally mellow over time with wear. Careful storage and avoiding moisture will help maintain its finish.
